Sinterklaas Visits ISA

On Monday, Sinterklaas came to visit ISA! Sint arrived on campus riding his white horse, Ozosnel, and accompanied by his helpers, the Pieten. Lower School students were assembled in the parking lot for traditional Sinterklaas music and dancing and, of course, a generous helping of sweet treats distributed by the Pieten. 

After meeting Dr Carmody for coffee, Sinterklaas and the Pieten visited the Lower School common areas to give students the opportunity to have an audience with Sinterklaas and to share news about the learning they have been engaged in recently.

Sinterklaas’s visit was the celebration of the end of Lower School’s ‘Pietengym’ programme. In the Pietengym, students prove that they have what it takes to be a Piet – jumping, rolling, climbing and running their way through an obstacle course.

Celebrating Sinterklaas is an annual tradition at ISA and an important way in which we engage and connect with the culture of our host country. Thank you to the Dutch Department for helping to teach students and staff alike about this fun Dutch tradition!
