Alumni Spotlight: Yllan Diehl
“My years at ISA taught me a lot. I felt prepared academically but I also learned a lot socially.”
Meet Yllan Diehl, an ISA Class of 2013 graduate who is studying Hospitality Business at EHL Lausanne.
What were your most memorable experiences at ISA?
My senior year was super memorable. I especially remember Theory of Knowledge classes with Matt Lynch and Film classes with Jennifer Motre as special ones.
What advice or insights do you have for our current ISA students?
My biggest advice would be for them to enjoy the time they have in high school (or school in general) as they will never have anything like it again.
How did your time at ISA impact your life?
My years at ISA taught me a lot. I felt prepared academically but I also learned a lot socially. For example, how to navigate social environments, how relationships work, etc.
What advice do you have for others looking to enter into your field of work?
My advice would be for you not to rush it. When you come out of high school, you are young and have a whole life ahead of you. Taking a year or two between school and university in terms of a gap year to figure out what you want to do might be a good option. If you are not sure about what you want to do that is probably the best path.
The ISA Alumni Spotlight series aims to showcase the journeys of individuals in our student, teacher and parent alumni communities. We ask them to reflect on how ISA made an impact on their life, and to share their advice on how to carry the mission of international understanding.
