Dutch Language Connecting Schools
This April marked the 10th anniversary of the collaboration between ISA and the Hermann Wesselink College. Both schools are located in Sportlaan in Amstelveen and joined forces to provide students with an opportunity to unite, build bridges and share new experiences.
Joyce, an ISA Upper School Dutch Teacher, shared: “It was heartwarming to see the students enthusiastically connecting and discussing the similarities and differences between their two schools. This event allows our students to see Dutch society in another way, through the eyes of their Dutch peers, as well as to practice their Dutch language skills in an authentic setting.”
Grade 9 and 10 ISA students enrolled in the Dutch Language Acquisition class connected with the VWO class from Hermann Wesselink College. Students from each school visit the other school’s campus for a language class and some social time. They even wrote poetry together! The project aims to support our Dutch Language Acquisition students to better integrate with the local culture.
“Many students had already connected through social media. They greeted each other so happily, exchanging lots of smiles and even hugs. After a brief poetry lesson, students created Dutch/English poems together. We finished the day with a tour around their campus and some social time.” – Joyce, Upper School Dutch Teacher
